SUPPORT, RESPONSIBILITY, SUCCESS

The Office of Undergraduate Programs and General Education began in August 2005, with the arrival of Howard Shapiro, Associate Vice President. Under his leadership, the office oversees the university general education program; new undergraduate programs, changes in existing undergraduate programs and discontinuance of undergraduate programs; undergraduate course proposal and material fee approvals; student academic appeals and general education waiver requests. This office is also responsible for coordinating the annual Excellence in Teaching Award and the annual Educational Development Grant for WSU faculty.

In addition to academic responsibilities, our office is responsible for WSU Student Services, including: Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Records & Registration, Academic Success Center, University Advising, Counseling & Psychological Services, Student Disability Services, Academic Pathways for Excellence, Career Services and Housing. Programs these offices support include: New Student and Transfer Student Orientation, iSTART, Advising forums, Learning Communities, Project 350, Upward Bound, No Worker Left Behind and the annual Student Academic Success Summit. The office also coordinates the K-12 Summer Programs website and annual poster that is distributed to area elementary/middle/high schools to advertise summer programs on WSU campus for local K-12 students.

Our focus is to ensure student success by fostering support and responsibility on the part of the student along with WSU faculty and staff to meet high academic achievement.
