The Office for Academic Pathways for Excellence (APEX) advances Wayne State University's commitment to provide access to higher education for promising students. APEX is responsible for designing implementing, coordinating and monitoring key programs and services that enhance the educational success of undergraduates. APEX is also responsible for collaborating with WSU schools and colleges, local school districts, community colleges, and governmental agencies. APEX provides leadership for university-wide retention efforts and initiatives, and direction to the Offices of Federal TRIO-ACCESS and the Division of Community Education.

The Academic Success Center is the one-stop center for academic skills assistance. We offer three main services ranging from tutoring, supplemental instruction and customized workshops. Students can also receive individualized study skills counseling from one of our Learning Specialists. The Academic Success Center provides a Technology Lab with the latest software for academic success. Students can take advantage of the Learning Video Library and Study Skills Lab.

The mission of the University Advising Center is to help undergraduate students fulfill their educational goals, achieve academically and graduate. The University Advising Center seeks to create a vital link between the university community and its undergraduate students, articulate the institution's academic purposes, and help students understand and negotiate the institution's rules, regulations and requirements.

The goal of Counseling and Psychological Services is to assist in the development and maintenance of a positive and healthy university community. In order to do this, we provide a variety of psychological services, prevention, and educational programming that promotes personal well-being and success. CAPS has a professional staff of psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors trained to work with college students. Students can call or stop by to make an appointment to see an individual counselor, join a group, or join a workshop. CAPS is here to support students' goals and personal development.

The mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid is to provide access to financial resources in a fair, sensitive and confidential manner; to inform and educate students and their families about their financial options; and, to continually improve our services so that students may take full advantage of their educational opportunities. The Office of Student Financial Aid assists eligible students in meeting their educational expenses while attending Wayne State University. Assistance is provided through grants, scholarships, student employment, and loans.

The First Year Experience website offers information to help with students’ transition to the first year of college. Included on the site are links to university student support offices, “How-to” instructions and parent information, all geared toward helping new students be successful at WSU.

K-12 Summer Programs 
Many WSU schools/colleges/departments offer summer programs on campus for K-12 students from the metro-Detroit area. From American Ballet Theater and Animations & Lego Robotics Camp to Tayshaun Prince NIKE Basketball camp and Upward Bound, there are over 20 summer programs available for K-12 students to participate in, and get to know Wayne State! Each year, a poster is created and distributed to local elementary, middle and high schools advertising all summer programs.
